PETER Jackson always had a strong sense of social justice.
He never judged anyone on their beliefs or political outlook but held steadfast to his own.
And he never sought recognition for a lifetime tackling social inequalities through community and voluntary service.
Peter once attended a meeting of his local residents committee in Newry about getting a community hall and came home as the chairman.
Over the years he also served as chair of the Confederation of Community Groups, the Shamrocks Athletic Club and Whitegates Community Business Ltd, as president of Newry Credit Union and honorary president of St John Bosco GFC, and on the boards of Clanrye Abbey Developments and St Bosco Youth Club.

In case you hadn’t noticed, everything is a ‘game changer’ these days.
A brand-new vaccine – game-changer; new funding stream for urban renewal projects – a game-changer; any new policy at all – yep, a game-changer. Basically, anything which can give us some small measure of hope is called a ‘game-changer’ nowadays.
The phrase is in serious danger of losing all meaning and is about to be tipped into a big box of well-worn clichés at any moment.
So, in memory of this once unique, head-turning phrase, I’m going to give it one last run out - just for old times’ sake.

An Auckland man has been charged with threatening to kill Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
The 30-year-old, who has been granted interim name suppression, was arrested in Counties Manukau on Tuesday, police told the Herald.
The defendant did not attend his first appearance at the Manukau District Court today because he suffered an injury, his counsel told the courtroom.
